Weighting – other software

This section describes how to set targets for respondent weighting in QPSMR Companion, for use with other analysis software programs. See Weighting respondents for an overview of rim/target weighting.

Companion weighting

The facilities in Companion have the following benefits:

  • Menu driven, no syntax
  • More flexible target setting
  • ESS/efficiency reports
  • The weights are stored in the data ready for exporting with the data

QPSMR CL and MRDCL

You will need to:

  1. Run a data stage that includes the rim variables
  2. Export to Companion to create a QDF and ASC
  3. Use the exported files for the weighting, see overview the on how to do this
  4. Use [Weights] [View weights] and save a CSV with the serial numbers and their weights.
  5. Finally, use PP to set the weights for each record

Important: This will only work if the data does not include duplicate serial numbers.

SPSS

You will need to:

  1. Run MakeQDF.sbs to create a QDF and ASC
  2. Use the exported files for the weighting, see the overview on how to do this
  3. Use [Weights] [View weights] and save a CSV with the serial numbers and their weights
  4. Merge the weights with the original data

Other software & triple-s

Other reputable Market Research programs, for example Quantum, should have an export to triple-s. The triple-s XML can loaded into the Companion using [File] [Load project from triple-s XML].  You can then weight the data as shown in the overview.

You can then export a new triple-s file to go with the saved data file with the weights, or you can use [Weights] [View weights] and save a CSV with the serial numbers and their weights for importing into the other software.
